Barbados Take 2 Bronze in Carifta Water Polo!

At the end of the Carifta Water Polo Championships 2016, the two Barbados teams did Barbados proud and earned themselves and the country 2 Bronze Medals. Nathan James received the Best Defender award in the 16&U division.

Thank you to the host, Trinidad & Tobago for an excellent tournament for the kids.

It was a positive showing by Team Barbados in their 2nd Carifta since our program was revamped 3 years ago. Barbados entered their 16&U team in both the 16&U and 19&U and added 3 16-19 players to help them through. The average age of the team was 15. and they show great promise for the future.

The level of Caribbean Water Polo is back on the rise again with Trinidad & Tobago and Jamaica leading this decade, Bahamas, Barbados and Curacao a level below and on the rise again, and Bonaire, Suriname and Guyana recently starting their programs. Bonaire especially showed great promise over the weekend with a Co-Ed team playing against all boys.

The region has a huge potential to make an impact with 8 countries now playing water polo in the Carifta region. A step up is the newly revamped CISC (combined with CAMEX- Central America) and CCCAN (Latin American islands as well) as the qualifiers for Panam Jr’s, Seniors and CAC games. Bright, Bright, Bright future for the Caribbean.

Barbados Jr Boys and Girls will take a few days off to settle back into school and then they will be back at it training for Haba Waba Montreal in July, the 3rd BOIWT in August, Miami Riptides in November and Trinidad/Panama in December.
Senior Barbados will also be preparing for the 3rd BOIWT and MIami Riptides in November.

Lots of positives from the guys but a lot of work to put in over the next year to aim for the Gold Medal Game and Gold at the next Carifta, hopefully in Barbados.
