The lone representative in swimming has much to celebrate in this his first Commonwealth Games. Making his debut today-Tuesday October 5th – in the 100 M breaststroke event in heat 2 in which he was placed 7th and 22nd overall in the event he got the advantage over 8 other participants whose times ranged from 1:15.83 to 1:39.60. Edwards’ time of 1:09.33 represented an improvement over previous performance of 1:11.36 at the Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships (CISC) in Cuba in July this year and represents a big improvement of 2 seconds. Edwards was the lone participant from the Caribbean in this event.
Nicholas Neckles-former Olympian, accompanying Edwards as Coach at these Games, reported-
“Raymond is in high spirits so we plan to keep the ball rolling for the 200M which is our most important event. I am hoping he can finish in the top 20.”
