The 17th Annual Aquatic International Swim Meet was held at the Aquatic Center in Wildey, Christ Church, Barbados from May 30th to June 1st 2008. The Stingrays Swim Club Barbados managed a fourth place to first place Pine Hill Alpha Swim Club Barbados in a field of 20 local and regional swim clubs.

Lani Cabrera, multiple gold medalist at the Carifta Swimming Meet 2008, was in fine form competing for Stingrays. In the opening event, the 400M Free, she won in a time of 4:31.67 breaking the Barbados National Open Women’s Record of 4:33.60 set by Natalie Crump in 1999. Later in the evening she was able to break the Barbados National 13-14 Age Group Record with a time of 2:32.17, bettering 2:35.85 set by Danielle Timothy in 1998.

The second night had Lani swimming the 200 Free where she broke the Barbados National 13-14 Age Group Record clocking 2:11.44 to Natalie Crump’s 2:11.96 from 1996.

During the meet Lani was able to break the Aquatic International Girls13-14 age group records in the 200 Free, 400 Free, 800 Free, 200 I.M. and 400 I.M.

The Caribbean Island Swimming Championship(CISC) will be held in Jamaica from July 18-22, 2008. Under the direction of Stingray’s coach Henderson Clarke, Lani will culminate her year long macro training program by attempting to successfully represent Barbados at the meet where 20 national age group teams will be competing
